The First Buds
As a leader and trainer of soldiers one of the greatest pleasures is seeing the first budding of new ideas and synergy. That moment when confusion and uncertainty leaves and understanding and excitement becomes apparent. Whether is how to use a weapon or hope to apply an intelligence method the look is almost always the same. And for that brief moment all the work seems to have paid for itself. The trick is to remind yourself that the work has just begun and to get back to it or else that moment will end never to return.
In the same light, despite hours of work, delays and extra cold nights the evidence of new life has arrived at LFV’s Urban farm. The fig trees are budding, potatoes, beans and onions have pushed through the grow and the transplants are finally ready to go into the ground. So this morning before I get back to weeding and hoeing i will take a moment and enjoy the little things and revile in the joy that brings. Then I will get back to work for we are weeks away from the first fruits of spring and months from the last harvest.
I hope you enjoy the same as the glint in the eye from these plants that warms my heart. Keep moving soldier and enjoy the life there in. Deven Little
