Planting Begins
The deployment finally happened, the exercise finally started, the school finally started or as in this case, after what seemed like months we finally got to begin planting outside. First placed plants in the raised beds, then our potatoes in the nightshade plot and lastly two varieties of corn in hills for our three sisters experiment. We also transferred peppers and tomatoes from our general trays to individual pots for future transplanting. So lots of progress on our process and lots for relief from all the waiting for the last 4 weeks.
As such we are trying to moderate the process so we don’t get to far ahead and damage the plants we have worked so hard to keep them alive. Even in doing this we have learned some vital lessons about growing inside, timing, and transfer plants from trays to individual small pots. We have also found having a little fun never hurts, as shown in the picture below.
The greatest joy I have found the last week in standing on my porch and enjoying the color and smell of spring. For those that don’t know in the spring the grass turns a vibrate shade or shades of green and a special smell erupts from all around that has a hint of a wet chill in it. My wife has found me more than once staring at nothing in particular while observing this change. She says I do it to avoid helping her in the house. But the truth is growing up in Montana we never got a real spring or fall so when it happens here in Ohio I tend to get a little lost in it. So if I can tear myself away from it this week I will keep you abreast of all the changes and advancements. Until than enjoy the change, Deven Little
