Failures and Successes
As a kid I as often told that failure is the not getting you when you fall, that losing is part of the process to finding success. I found that to be true through much of my life whether it wrestling, running, vocal training, basic training, or just standing in front of my first NCO board and just sucking the big one. Each fall was a learning experience to demonstrate I needed to take my training seriously, that talent cant make up for time in the long run, or that I am not as smart as I think I am. But I would argue that winning is equally as important to learn from winning. The success is measured in different ways, that confidence and drive can make up for a lake of talent and that winning graciously is as important as losing gracefully.
I was once again in line to eat a little crow and try and find success in failure. I have had to consed that my winter wheat patch has died. It was my own fault I planted to late in the year and expected to much from 40 year old seed. Due to a late winter start the seed planted in Oct came up and was showing by Dec, but the hard freezes of Jan knocked it back before the roots had hardened. In fact the only thing growing in the field beside weeds in a few daffodils that survived my turning of the soil.
So what to do now. Well the bed will need a little weeding and the flowers will need to be moved. Then when it warms up next week I will plant it with some of the transplant my wife started while I was a drill in Feb. We will use the loss as a starting place for a gain. Just like I used the pain a humiliation of my early falls to rise and motivate me to do more and do better.
To prepare for the large growth we are pushing for this year, Chris and I started some trays of cold start vegetables to put in the ground by the end of the month. We reused some trays our friends at Hope grows farms lent us and mixed old potting soil with compost and some of our sandy soil. broke up teh clots, press the dirt and watered them. We did this with 5 trays outside and did 4 trays inside of less temperature tolerant plants. We how to plant 1/2 of an acre of our property keeping the rest for our poultry, rabbits and children.
We will keep you abreast of our falls and slips, our triumphs and successes. We hope some knowledge and experience can be gained by doing so. Remember to get your hands dirty. Deven
